You Should Know My Kids

 My Brats

My oldest child is J.R. He’s 17 years old and a junior in high school.

J.R.

He started Running Start this year which means he has one class at his high school and the rest at the college and hopefully he’ll be graduating with an AA degree. He’s seriously the smartest person I know, but he’s also one of the laziest so I have to constantly kick him in the ass to get him to do things.

My oldest daughter is Katie.

Katie

She’s 15 years old and she’s a freshman in high school. She’s a very sweet girl, who is absolutely goofy and loves to talk (way too fast most of the time). She has no interest in Running Start because she wants to stay in high school with her friends. And she wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

Then there’s Dustin, who is 14 years old and is in 8th grade.

Dustin

I think he may be taller than me now, which is sad because he was always my Snuggle Bug. He also was diagnosed with Autism a few years ago, but he’s very high functioning and most people don’t realize he’s any different than any other 14 year old. He’s a good kid who spends way too much time by himself or talking to our animals. And he swears they talk back to him.

Next is Hunter, who is 11 years old and in 6th grade.

Hunter

I’m actually afraid for him to enter junior high. Hunter is my ADHD/ODD kid, who has mellowed out A LOT in the last couple of years. He’s totally attached to his baby sister and will randomly decide to do things like clean and organize our hall closet, or scrub down the kitchen and sweep and mop the floors. He loves to make people happy but unfortunately he loves annoying people just as much.

Mikaela is 10 years old and is in the 5th grade.

Mikaela

She loves to draw, loves animals and is always smiling. We always say that if Mikaela isn’t smiling then there’s something seriously wrong. She’s a very sweet kid who rarely causes any problems. She loves school and makes friends very easily. Oh, she’s also my mini-me. See?

Me and Mikaela

That’s me on the left. Mikaela on the right.

And last we have Raven, although we all call her Boogie.

Boogie

She’s 5 years old and is in kindergarten. She’s the typical baby of the family, very spoiled by her brothers and sisters and very demanding when she wants something. She also loves to draw me pictures and if she has an envelope she can put them in and decorate then she’s even happier. I have drawings of hers all over my fridge and walls, and a stack of them on top of my fridge. She’s a very lovey kid who is always hugging us and telling us how much she loves us.

And those are my kids. They’re great. They’re wonderful. But occasionally,  I admit that I wonder if it’s too late to leave them on somebody’s doorstep.
